There is a lot to be said for eating plant foods in as close to their natural state as possible. Fibre is found in fresh & dried fruit, fresh vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, beans and lentils.
Fibre is about much more than preventing constipation… it helps you feel fuller for longer, helps produce a more stable insulin response to food (which means more stable blood sugar and energy levels and less risk of diabetes in the long term), reduces the risk of bowel cancer, and for the calorie watchers, is calorie free because we do not actually digest most forms of fibre – it simply passes through…
Fibre rich foods also usually happen to be low in fat (or contain polyunsaturated as opposed to saturated fat) and happen to be those which deliver all of the other good stuff we really need – naturally packaged vitamins and minerals.
So many good reasons to make fibre rich food the BULK of your diet… 🙂
